It was a shopping heaven

Got back from jakarta ystrdy evening. Man, prices of some of the clothes, bags n stuffs alike are unbelievably cheap!! Will be writing abt the trip when I can get the pics from Aida n finish uploading them to my photobucket album. Man, I should get a DSLR sooner I suppose!! EOS 400D is nice, but I’m kinda undecided to get EOS 1000D or 450D, hmm….

  1. hmm, getting a DSLR is a personal choice, make sure that it fits into your grip.

i’m not too keen on getting the 1000D. you are better off with Nikon D60.

do your homework before settling down with a model that you like.

  2. Well, there’s a very low chance I’ll be getting any model that is not Canon since I’m already familiar with its control n I kinda like it better than Nikon’s. I did had a chance to snap ard with my ex-college mate’s Nikon D40X n it’s….different.

Being a new model, 1000D is superior than 400D in many ways except for its 7-point AF. 400D n 450D has 9-point. Argh…

Actually, I have saved enuf to buy 1000D now, but I’m kinda drawn back mostly by that factor. So most likely, I’ll be getting the 450D. Even then, I’ll still hv to budget more for a spare battery. 1 battery just isn’t enuf. Gotta save more then 🙂

  5. bro do you homework.

the thing that really matters with the dslr is the lens. get a model that can interchange lenses cheaply and easily.

certain models can only take certain lenses and believe me, after taking a while you would want to change your lens. like me.

  6. Well, regarding lens, EOS 450D is very versatile actually; it can mount on EF and EF-S lense, which pretty much sums up all Canon-manufactured autofocus lens, if not most. I doubt I’ll use 3rd-party lens. Somehow, I feel more secured using manufacturer’s lens. As far as choice is concerned, Canon has more autofocus lens than any other.

Lens is of course v important. Canon pioneered the “entry-level DSLR” with the 300D. And 350D. And 400D. And now 1000D. AFAIK, all EOS models are compatible with ANY EF lenses, and lower to mid-range ones are compatible with EF-S. Combine these two facts, it means ppl using 1000D body can use those bazooka-like lens during football matches or F1 race. This means a lot to many photo-enthusiast considering 1000D body costs only about rm1.5k IIANM (Rm1,999 with EF-S 18-55mm lens kit), whereas a say, EOS-1D mkIII, costs as much as a viva 660cc. That, is why Canon is v popular.

But I tak nak lah terlalu basic, so from what I see 450D hits the sweet spot. Actually, I’m thinking more abt wanting to get a flash kit (either speedlite 580RX II or Speedlite 430EX) first before getting a second lens kit (maybe an EF-S 55-250mm)

I dunno abt Nikon, bt I heard it can use manual focus lens from the days of film SLR. I think that’s a bit too hardcore edi…… unless I’m rly old and feeling nostalgic, I don’t see why I wanna use lens from before I was born……

Btw, when did u purchase ur D60? What lens do u hv?

  9. kev,

ckp mcm da ada 10 lens, lol. Hm, prime lens sounds good….. bt IMHO, I’d rather get some other gears first (flash, lens hood, n remote shutter come to mind) n practice wit std lens before goin for other lens. Prime lens….. can consider la 🙂

Yes, I’m satisfied with them 🙂 . I doubt all the stuffs I bought are genuine, but even if they’re not, nobody can tell 😛 . I bought a Harrod’s bag for 79,000 rph (approx RM27++) which even had a label “Made in UK” 😉 .

Cheap stuff may normally be associated with inferior quality, well it’s not automatically the case for me as long as I take good care of it. Expensive branded items can go wrong too if not handled with care.

  10. like that takyah so many lens bro. a few will do. unless you hardcore photography la. exp hobby wei.

you might consider a flash that can pusing pusing wan. cost around 1k or more. remote shutter if you wan you need to get a real good tripod before that.

anyway, lens hood tak payah now. standard lens kit dont need a lens hood. you might as well go get those UV filters for less than RM50 to prevent scratches on the lens.
lens hood only applies to telescopic lenses, or 200mm lens.

  11. Manalah tau…… mcm vikingw2k ni.

14 lens…… Wanna know list of bodies he got? He can buy a German car edi I think if combine all costs of his lens n bodies =_=

From what I read in lowyat forum, 430EX II is ard rm1k, while grey set of 580EX II costs like RM1.4k. Wonder how much 580EX II’s official price……

Good tripod eh…… that means if the one normally given free when buy at say, Fotokem is lauya one kah? 😛

    Ooo…… UV filters kah…… that’ll be convenient. 🙂

  14. Vince: Well, quite. But overall spending (passport, hotel, flight, shopping, food etc) was kept below rm2k, so it wasn’t too bad.

Kev: Fotokem always advertise they give 4GB SD, bag, LCD protector, some software I dun remember, tripod, ermm….. what else?

Ystrdy I was passing by one of the college building, saw the photography club promoting. I got a chance to test snapping with an EOS 5D with EF 24-70mm f/2.8 L lens 😀 So awesome I died……
